At Temple Mill, our curriculum is built around a simple but powerful journey: from understanding ourselves and our local community to understanding our place in the wider world. Rooted in our values of Community, Aspiration, Respect, Empathy and Strength (CARES), our curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, build knowledge and develop responsible global citizens. Through a carefully sequenced, geography-led approach, pupils explore their immediate surroundings before broadening their understanding to include Great Britain, Europe, Africa, the Americas and the wider world. Along the way, they develop a deeper appreciation of identity, diversity, sustainability and citizenship, ensuring they are well prepared for the next stage of education and life.

At Temple Mill we place great emphasis on Maths and English as these underpin many of the other aspects of the taught curriculum. English and specifically writing is used as the basis for our cross curricular teaching and learning approach. This programme is regularly reviewed to ensure compatibility with new directives or to make necessary improvements to the existing programme of work.

There is now a great deal of emphasis in the use of ICT across the curriculum with a focus on ‘Computing’ and, in particular, computer skills to enhance the learning in all the subjects of the curriculum. Through the subject of ‘Computing’ we aim to teach a progressive set of skills that enable all the children to become competent and confident users of ICT. To do this, we follow the 'Teach Computing' curriculum.

We also value the role of Modern Foreign Languages in the curriculum and Spanish is taught throughout KS2 from Year 3 to Year 6.

Individual student needs will be catered for through AEN (additional educational needs), A&T (able & talented), EAL (English as an additional language and differentiation.

Teachers use questions to engage children in learning and children are encouraged to ask their own questions inspired by their curiosity, which is used to shape learning and research. Children are challenged in their learning, whatever their starting point and are supported to become the best they can be.

When children leave Temple Mill Primary School at the end of Year 6, they should be equipped with the full range of skills that enables them to become lifelong learners.

New long term plans coming soon!
